BrokeMap terms of use
Last updated 8 October 2026.
These terms cover BrokeMap, a website for finding cheap meals in Sydney, made by Meridian Labs (ABN 88 792 692 097), an Australian sole trader. "We" means Meridian Labs. "You" means anyone using BrokeMap. By using BrokeMap you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use it. What we do with personal information is in our privacy policy.
The short version
- BrokeMap is free. Prices and hours can be out of date, so check with the venue before you go.
- Post only what you saw or paid for yourself, and only photos you took yourself, with no people's faces in them.
- You keep ownership of what you post. You let us show it in BrokeMap and in our own social media posts about BrokeMap.
- We can remove content and restrict accounts that abuse the service.
- Nothing here takes away your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
What BrokeMap is
BrokeMap is a map of cheap meals in Sydney, to help you decide where to eat. You can browse it without an account. It's free to use. We may change, pause or stop BrokeMap, or parts of it, and if we ever start charging for something we'll say so clearly before we do. BrokeMap isn't affiliated with the venues on it, and a listing doesn't mean the venue endorses BrokeMap or the other way round.
Prices, hours and meals
Listings come from venues' own websites and public posts, from our own checks, and from people who use BrokeMap. Prices, conditions and opening hours change, and a venue can run out of something or close without telling anyone. Each listing shows where its facts came from and when they were last checked or confirmed. That date is all it tells you about how current it is.
Always confirm with the venue before you travel or buy. We don't promise that any meal, price, condition or opening time on BrokeMap is accurate, current or still on offer. A price on BrokeMap isn't an offer from the venue, and the venue doesn't have to honour it.
Accounts
You need an account to save meals, or to add, confirm, correct or report a listing. You can sign in with an email code or with Google.
- One account per person. Don't share your account, sell it or make accounts for other people.
- You must be 13 or older to have an account. Anyone can use the map without one.
- Keep your access safe: look after your email and Google accounts, and tell us if you think someone else has got into yours. What's done through your account is your responsibility.
- You can close your account from your account page. The privacy policy explains what is deleted, under Deleting your account.
What you can post
You can add meals, prices and conditions, photos, short notes, confirmations that a listing is still right, corrections, and reports about a listing that looks wrong or has closed. Receipts or other evidence you send so we can check something stay private and are only seen by us.
Rules for posting
- Keep it true and first-hand. Post what you saw or paid yourself, with the date you saw it. Don't guess or make things up, and don't post fake confirmations or reports to push a place up or down.
- Use your own photos. Only upload photos you took yourself or have the right to share. No photos copied from the web, a venue's page or another person.
- Leave people out. No identifiable faces, and no names, phone numbers, email addresses, card details or receipts showing personal information. Notes are shown publicly with the listing.
- Keep it decent. Nothing offensive, harassing, hateful, sexual, misleading or against the law.
- No spam or hidden advertising. If you own or work for a venue, or are paid by it, say so in your note, and don't post just to promote it.
Review and moderation
New meals are checked by us before they appear on the map. Confirmations, corrections and photos on existing meals can appear straight away as a "Community contribution", but a change to a listed price or condition is reviewed before it replaces the listed details. Photos are checked automatically for inappropriate content before anyone else can see them.
We can hide, edit or remove anything you post, and put a meal on hold while we check it. For repeated or serious misuse we can restrict or close an account. If you think we got a decision wrong, tell us from your account page or by email and we'll look again. We don't promise to review everything quickly or to catch everything, so please use the report option if you spot something that shouldn't be there.
Your content and our licence
You keep ownership of what you post. To run BrokeMap we need your permission to use it, so when you post something you give Meridian Labs a licence to use it. The licence is non-exclusive (you can still use your own content anywhere), worldwide and royalty-free. It lets us host, store, show and share your content, and adapt it, for example by cropping or resizing a photo or adding text over it, in these places:
- in BrokeMap itself, and
- in BrokeMap's own social media posts and other promotion of BrokeMap, such as on Instagram and TikTok. That includes passing your content to those platforms as needed to post it.
We don't have to credit you, and you agree that we can use your content without crediting you. We won't put your name or email with it. We won't sell your content or hand it to other people to use for their own purposes.
By posting, you promise that the content is yours to share, for example that you took the photo, and that it follows the rules above.
The licence for a photo ends when the photo is removed from BrokeMap, whether you removed it, we did, or it was deleted with your account. Copies already posted on social media or elsewhere before then are not affected, but if you ask us at the email address below we'll take down our own post of it. The same goes for your other content, except that meal details other people have also confirmed stay on BrokeMap without any link to you.
Venues
Listings are based on public information, such as a venue's own website and public social posts, and on what people tell us. We record facts (the meal, its price, conditions and date, and where we found them). We don't use a venue's photos, logos or text without its permission. Venue names and brands belong to their owners and are used only to say which place a listing is about.
If you run a venue and a listing is wrong, or you'd like it corrected or removed, email admin@meridianlabssoftware.com. Tell us which venue and meal, what should change, and how you're connected to the venue so we can check. We'll look at it as soon as we can.
Using BrokeMap properly
- Don't scrape or copy BrokeMap's listings, photos or data using a tool, or use bots or other automated access. Search engines that follow our robots.txt are fine.
- Don't interfere with the service: no overloading it, no getting around sign-in, rate limits, review or any restriction we've placed on an account, and no trying to break into it. If you find a security problem, email us before telling anyone else.
- Use BrokeMap for yourself. Don't republish it, or build a competing service from its content.
- Don't use it for anything unlawful.
BrokeMap's name, design and software belong to Meridian Labs or the people we license them from. These terms don't give you any rights to them beyond using BrokeMap as intended.
Australian Consumer Law and our responsibility
Some rights under the Australian Consumer Law and other laws can't be excluded, and nothing in these terms tries to. Apart from those, BrokeMap is provided as is. We aren't responsible for a wasted trip, a price that turned out different, a venue that was shut, or other losses that come from relying on a listing, or from BrokeMap being unavailable or wrong at some point. Where the law lets us limit our responsibility for something we can't exclude, we limit it to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
BrokeMap links to and uses other services, such as maps and Google sign-in, which have their own terms and which we don't control. All of this applies only as far as the law allows.
Changes
We may change these terms, for example if BrokeMap gains new features. We'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. If you keep using BrokeMap after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, stop using it and close your account.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales can decide any dispute about them.
